We use the Gravatar service to display your avatar in the OMP Community. An avatar is an image that represents you online, aka your profile photo. This little picture appears next to your name when you interact in the community, e.g., by writing questions and answers within the forums.
“Gravatar” means Globally Recognized Avatar. You upload an image and create your public profile just once. Then when you participate in any Gravatar-enabled site, your Gravatar image and the public profile will automatically follow you there.
Gravatar is free to use. It is automatically included in every WordPress.com account and is run and supported by Automattic, the company behind WordPress. You also need to create a free WordPress.com account before using Gravatar.
How to set up your Gravatar Account
First, go to the Gravatar website. You’ll see a sign-in button in the upper-right corner. After clicking it, you’ll be redirected to a sign-in page asking for your WordPress.com account information. If you have a WordPress.com account, please enter that information here. You’ll then be asked to authorize Gravatar for your account. Please click Create a new account below the form to register if you don’t.
If you need to create a new account, please use the same email address you use for the OMP Community, and select a username and password. Click Sign Up to finalize your registration. WordPress.com will send you an email to confirm your email. Please click the activation link in the email to finish the process. You’ll land on a Thank you page asking you if you want to head back over to Gravatar.
Click Sign in to Gravatar and you’ll log in automatically. Finally, customize your Gravatar profile. You can add multiple email addresses and images if you like. If you need more help setting up your Gravatar, please head to their support pages.
